Indeed, some of the Irish Gold Coast’s landmarks are of world renown, and a visit promises access to a number of breathtaking landmarks, both of the natural and man-made variety. Giant’s Causeway

The Gold Coast has certainly been blessed by nature. The jewel in the crown of tourism here, and indeed in Northern Ireland in general, is the magnificent Giant’s Causeway, so named due to the unique nature of this natural landmark and the associated legend involving Irish giant Finn MacCool. The basalt columns which provide the jaw-dropping, moon-like quality of the natural phenomenon were more likely caused by volcanic fissures, of course, but with storytelling such a fundamental part of Irish heritage, the yarns and myths attached to the location simply add to the intrigue, and visitors are often left charmed by the combination of mystical legend and aching natural beauty.

Nature’s wonders

Yet there is more to Northern Ireland, and the Gold Coast, than the Causeway. There are stunning beaches galore to be found, including the blue-flag Portstewart. And storytelling extends way beyond giants throwing rocks, with fans of the hit literary and TV series Game of Thrones thronging to Dark Hedges – a collection of 150 beech trees that were featured so memorably as the ‘Kings Road’ in the series. Indeed, for those dedicated to the show, Northern Ireland offers a number of landmarks used within the television series, and Game of Thrones tours are an immensely popular attraction for visitors.

Downtime

Visiting the breathtaking landmarks of Northern Ireland can be exhausting. A more chilled experience can be had in one of the area’s many first-class restaurants. Pop-up saunas along the coast have also become a major attraction, while superb internet access in even rural spots means visitors can enjoy their favourite online activities.  For example, Ireland’s rich betting heritage can be enjoyed via both international platforms and Irish casino sites on casino.com/ie, as well as mobile betting apps that are easily accessible anywhere along the coast.

History and entertainment

When batteries are recharged, there is even more to be seen nearby. Irish legends abound at the stunning Dunluce Castle, while the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge offers thrill seekers stunning views on the adrenalin-inducing trek across the iconic bridge. Fans of a more sedate day out might enjoy the gorgeous Mussendon Temple, inspired by the legendary Temple of Vesta, found in Tivoli, near Rome. Originally built as a library, the temple is stunningly situated on cliffs near Castlerock, and is yet another example of the delights that visitors can find here on the Gold Coast. Nearby Portrush has something for younger visitors in the shape of Curry’s Fun Park, formerly Barry’s Attractions. And for those with the taste, the Old Bushmills Distillery offers tours and tasting – a popular attraction for those inclined.

The delights of Bangor

The city at the heart of it all in terms of Northern Ireland’s Gold Coast is Bangor, County Down. Situated on the southern side of the famous Belfast Lough, Bangor is only 22km to the east of Belfast city centre, so it offers easy access to both the urban delights of Northern Ireland’s major city, as well as all the stunning locations on the Gold Coast. There are all manner of accommodation options, from five-star hotels to more modest bed and breakfasts, while the city’s restaurants and entertainment offer options for even the most eclectic tastes.

Access to Belfast

Belfast is only a matter of miles from Bangor and the delights of the Gold Coast, and truly offers visitors a modern city experience. As well as plenty of heritage and history, including the world-renowned Titanic museum and tours of the murals of the city, there are all the delights of world-class restaurants, cafes, bars and nightspots. It truly is a city to be enjoyed by young and old alike, and offers a combination of modern attractions including galleries, casinos and sports arenas.
